Looking through the scope of his rifle, Dahvin sees the group that he has been looking to exact vengeance on. He sees two men and a woman with a bear talking to a doctor and three orderlies in front of a hospital. I can’t help but feel a bit nervous aiming at this girl in my scope. We had drawn out a plan, Jane and I will shoot the girl with the bear while Kate and Arthur shoot at either of the other two. I don’t like to hurt women, they always remind me of what happened to Amanda and Rachel. Seeing this young woman in person is taking the edge off of my rage and my need for revenge. However, I have to remember that this woman is destroying families and feeding innocent people to her bear. I'm glad that Jane has agreed with me about this, I couldn't have gotten the others to go along with me on this without her. Okay Dahvin, steady. Just think of that poor bike shop owner and how his family looked, how that poor boy looked. Pay attention to the wind, it’s calming down now, fire.
The bullet screams through the air and explodes through the woman’s shoulder forever shattering the shoulder blade. The others fire but don’t hit anything. The orderlies scatter and the doctor runs into the hospital. One of the men with the bear runs into the hospital with the doctor and the other one hides behind the woman.
Damn it all, why couldn’t at least one of them hit someone? This is going to turn into a drawn out fight if they all escape into the hospital. We better take out that crazy bastard with the chainsaw first.
Jane fires a shot at the orderly with a chainsaw but scores a glancing hit, enraging him further.
Bastard must be on some kind of crazy drug for him to have not even felt that. I guess I’ll have to do it, like always. Why do i always seem to be the one shooting or hurting someone? Especially people who get drawn into all of the crap we bring wherever we go.
Lining up the shot, Dahvin puts the round between the orderly’s eyes. He drops and the chainsaw skips down the rubble pile going silent as it gets to the bottom. Dahvin sees the bear and one of the men run into the hospital at the last second. He slides back behind the rubble pile and hears the others arguing.
“We should just leave, how do we know we are doing the right thing? We are just as bad as them just shooting without talking.” Art was shouting at us.
Dahvin rolled his eyes and turned to watch the clearing between the hospital and the rubble pile.
Arthur is really starting to annoy me, he isn’t the same man I knew in the force. When did he start to hate everything that we knew? When is it that he stopped wanting to protect the world from injustice? When did he stop having anything to live for? Wait a second… are that kid’s eyes glowing?
As he stared out, Dahvin noticed a kid who hadn’t moved through all of the chaos. Now that kid was staring at him and his eyes are glowing a shade of green that is in no way natural.
“Uh, guys, that kid has been staring over here and now his eyes are glowing green. Crap he’s walking towards us now.”
The kid starts making his way up the rubble pile and everyone scrambled to look. The whole time Diane shouts “Shoot it, shoot it now. If none of you are going to then I will.”
I wonder what it is that makes Diane want to kill whatever this things is so quickly. It must be her survival instincts from living alone for so many years. I know this kid is really a cybernetic, but I have no idea what these people are doing with one. The only other cybernetics I ever saw were the ones we used for security on the MPD. I guess I agree with Diane, better to err on the side of caution and kill it now before it breaks all our limbs.
Diane aims her pistol at the “kid” and has it stolen from her by Art before she can use it. The kid is now standing at the top of the rubble pile staring at the group. Dahvin happens to notice a USB drive sticking out of the kid’s ear in addition to the glowing eyes. Dahvin points his gun at the kid and tells him to back off and identify himself. The kid just says "hi" in response and inspects Dahvin’s gun.
I better do something about this cybernetic before it kills me while they are arguing back there.
Dahvin hits the kid in the chest with his rifle butt and winds up cracking it. Dahvin backs off fast and the others give a worried look towards the child.
“What the hell!” Kate shouts. “How the hell did that happen, why didn’t he react?”
Sometimes I wish Kate wasn’t as innocent as she is. She seems to not really have an understanding of the world and what is in it at all. I mean, how in the hell does she not think that a kid with a thumb drive in his ear and glowing green eyes was okay?
Before anything else can happen the group hears a man shout out for the kid and it scampers off toward the hospital. Art stalks down the rubble pile annoyed and rides away on his bicycle, his final words being “I don’t fight bears and I don’t fight robots. I’m getting too old for this shit.”
After Art left the rest made plans to get the people in the hospital. Jane and Kate to go around the rubble and past the parking structure, Diane and Dahvin to sneak up to the front and cover the front entrance.
Diane never ceases to amaze me. Here she is, injured badly and having just received a blood transfusion yesterday and here she is, duct-taping her wounds and preparing to climb the walls of this hospital to get the “drop” on these bastards.
Shortly after making her way up the wall Dahvin notices that he smells smoke. Looking around he sees that Jane and Kate have started the boarded up windows on fire. Dahvin starts to feel alarm rise up from his heart through his body as he thinks about Diane stuck inside this burning building.
How could they do this? If anything happens to Diane my life is over.
